English Heritage aims to dramatically improve the visitor experience at Clifford's Tower with significant investment to create a new viewing platform at the top of the tower, suspended metal walkways within the tower giving access to previously unseen features and a welcoming visitor centre at the base of the mound.

A 15thC guildhall, built on the site of a former Commonhall, served the guilds as a meeting-place. The Guildhall is a replica of the 15thC building, the original being destroyed by fire in an air raid in 1942. The ancient stone walls escaped total destruction and form the frame of the reconstructed hall. The stained-glass window depicts the history of York.
